PW Coordinating Team

This busy team of ladies plans and coordinates a wide variety of mission activities throughout the year.

Heartstrings/Prayer Shawls
Knitting and Crocheting Ministry to Serve Those in Need

The ladies who participate in Heartstrings knit and crochet prayer shawls and prayer blankets for those in need of special prayer and care. Heartstrings also makes baby hats for newborns and preemies at Fairview Park Hospital and the NICUU at the Medical Center in Macon, fetal demise layettes, hats for chemotherapy patients at 3 cancer treatment centers, scarves for breast cancer patients, and warm sweaters for needy children around the world, and knitted/crocheted items for Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany (U.S. military hospital serving soldiers wounded in the Middle East).

Heartstrings meets in the church conference room every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 7:00-8:30 PM. Its members are from all over Laurens County and represent a variety of churches in the area. The name “Heartstrings” was chosen to reflect the use of creativity and skills to provide gifts from the heart, using knitting needles, crochet hooks, and yarn. Some items are sewn as well. We teach knitting and crocheting every time we meet. All lessons are free of charge.

We ask that beginning knitters bring US #7 or #8 knitting needles (10” length straight needles are best) and worsted weight yarn. If you are wanting to learn to crochet, bring a size G (#6) crochet hook and worsted weight yarn. Add a desire to learn, a little practice, and you are on your way to lots of fun and fellowship at Heartstrings.

Planning Church Dinners

On the Wednesday near March 17 each year, the HMPC Presbyterian Women cook up an Irish Stew for all to enjoy. Complete with decorations, Irish music, and lots ‘o green, a fun time is in store for everyone.

The PW also coordinates and cook for the Beans and Bread Supper on Ash Wednesday and the Christmas Cantata Reception

The folks at Henry Memorial love to fellowship around the table, so many meals are shared throughout the year. You will find the ladies in the middle of those meals too. On the 5th Sunday of any month, the church has a potluck lunch immediately following the morning worship service. Everyone brings a dish and pitches in to help do whatever needs to be done to provide a wonderful meal and time of fellowship.

Providing Meals for Families in Times of Need

When a church member or family is in need of some TLC, the PW is there to provide a comforting meal. The Presbyterian Women also offer to host a meal for the family and close friends when a funeral or memorial service is held at our church.

Bible Study Circles

We have two Bible study circles. The Morning Circle meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month (Sept.-May) at 9:30 AM. Usually the Morning Circle meets at someone’s home. These locations are determined in the fall of the year.

The Night Circle meets on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM at the church.

 Bridal and Baby Showers

The ladies enjoy sponsoring a shower for our new brides and for our new mothers-to-be. These events are generally held in the Christian Life Center or in the Conference Room.

Birthday Offering Luncheon

Every year the PW sponsors a program and luncheon to support the Presbyterian Women Birthday Offering. The luncheon is held alternately with the ladies at Washington Street Presbyterian Church. A program is presented, highlighting the Offering recipients; this is followed by a delicious lunch of sandwiches and salads. Of course the meal would not be complete without a slice of the beautiful birthday cake. An offering is collected and sent to Presbyterian Women Birthday Offering fund. Click here for more information on the Birthday Offering.

Thank Offering

Each November, the HMPC PW collects a Thank Offering. This offering goes to support various worthy projects here in the United States, as well as other parts of the world. Click here for more information on the Thank Offering.

Christmas Activities

Each year the HMPC PW buys toys and clothing items for 2 foster children in Laurens County. This effort is coordinated through CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) . Below are some pictures of recent gifts for the foster children:

Other groups are assisted at Christmas time as well. HMPC PW sends monetary contributions to Helping Hand, Lighthouse, WINGS (Women In Need of God’s Shelter), and Hospice of Laurens County.

Be An Angel is a special project that is near and dear to the hearts of the HMPC PW. Along with other Presbyterian churches in this area, we collect household and personal items to be sent to the Swainsboro Presbyterian Apartments in Swainsboro, GA. These apartments provide housing for low income, mostly elderly people. Their needs are great, and we try to make their Christmas time special in this way.

Other Mission Projects

A recent project of HMPC PW was to assist the Youth Group in their work with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. The Youth Group collected money from the congregation to sponsor the making of hygiene kits for Haiti. Thanks to the generosity of the folks at Henry Memorial, there was money left over once all the hygiene kits were made. The Presbyterian Women were asked to use this surplus money to buy items for baby kits for Haiti. A total of 9 baby kits were put together and sent to Haiti. These kits included cloth diapers, diaper pins, t-shirts, clothing, washcloths, blankets, and baby gowns.

Attic/Bake Sale

Each year, early in September, the HMPC PW sponsors an Attic Sale in the Christian Life Center. The proceeds from this sale are used to support the many mission projects the women undertake. For more information call 478-272-3721.
